Community-owned Renewable Energy

What it means for a community to truly own its power supply.

Part 6 of 6

Community-owned Renewable Energy

This final module brings everything together and asks the bigger question at the heart of Energy Democracy: what would it mean for a community, not a private company, to actually own its power supply? Community-owned renewable energy means the people who use the electricity are also the ones who benefit from it — through lower bills, local jobs, and a real say in how the system is run. It's a genuinely different model from the one most of us grew up with, and it's already being piloted in communities across South Africa, including some of the very neighbourhoods this project works alongside. Watch the video, then complete the quiz to finish the course.
