What do we use electricity for?

Understanding the everyday ways electricity powers our homes and communities.

Part 1 of 6

What do we use electricity for?

It's easy to take electricity for granted until it isn't there. In this first module, we slow down and really look at the everyday ways power shows up in our homes, our workplaces, and our communities — from the obvious (lights, fridges, phone chargers) to the things we barely notice, like the pump that brings water to the tap or the traffic lights that keep our streets moving. Understanding what we actually use electricity for is the starting point for everything that follows: you can't talk about a fairer, cleaner energy system without first understanding the one we already depend on every day. Watch both videos below, then test what you've learned in the short quiz.
